Am I Ready For My New Piercing?
This week we want to talk to you about preparing for your piercing, to help you know what to expect, but to also help you be as ready as possible for the piercing to make healing and looking after it as smooth as possible, and to make the whole process as pain free as possible!
1. What piercing do I want?
It's important to know what piercing you want! But some more questions to ask us while you are deciding are...
Have a think about what jewellery you might like - have you seen a piece online you like? Do you have a favourite colour? Do you prefer gold to titanium coloured jewellery? Would you prefer a bar or a ring? You don't have to know exactly what you want to put in it before you come in, as we do have lots of options, but it's less overwhelming for you if you have an idea of what you like. Pictures are good too, and we can always custom order jewellery just for you!
3. Do I understand how to look after it?
We will always help you heal a piercing, but it's always good to have a conversation with us about how best to look after your piercing, especially if it's something with a longer healing time...such as cheek piercings, or if it's something that might be a little restricting at first...like a tongue piercing. Have a think if your lifestyle is right to heal your desired piercing right now, and ask us how we can help!
4. Can I afford it?
Don't go to someone just because they are cheap! A piercing is being worn inside your body, and will need looking after with proper aftercare. Make sure you are in a position to be able to pay for someone to perform the piercing with proper aseptic techniques and appropriate, industry standard jewellery.
5. Do I feel comfortable having this done?
Make sure you are happy before you have the piercing done! Do you feel comfortable in the studio, and with your piercer? Here at Pierce Of Art we are always happy to answer questions, show you around or anything you'd like to see. We are happy for you to take a moment when you're in the piercing room to settle yourself. We will never force anyone to have anything done if they don't feel comfortable having it! When you are in the room, that room is yours for as long as you need it, we will never rush you...and when we have marked the placement, you are allowed to ask us to move it if you don't like where it is!
6. Have I eaten?
Just to finish off with some practical advice, too! We recommend you eat at least 4 hours before being pierced, and it's always sensible to make sure you are in general good health before having a piercing - your immune system needs to be able to focus on healing your new piercing!
If you have any questions about being pierced, feel free to ask them! Comments are open on here, or if you would prefer to ask privately, feel free to email alfreton@pierceofart.co.uk
1. What piercing do I want?
It's important to know what piercing you want! But some more questions to ask us while you are deciding are...
- How long does this piercing take to heal?
If the piercing takes an estimated 6 months to heal, but you are planning on going travelling in 3 months, maybe it's best to wait! - Do I have the right anatomy? Not every piercing suits every single person - let us take a look and advise, remember, there's always an alternative
- Will I have to remove it for school/work? It's always a shame to have to remove a piercing when you wanted to have it done, it's always worth checking with your school/place of work that they aren't going to make you take it out straight away!

This post is super helpful for anyone considering a new piercing! It’s so important to be prepared mentally and physically. I’d also suggest keeping a piercing aftercare spray ready—it really helps with daily cleaning and smooth healing.
