How To Look After Your Piercings While In Lockdown
The country is in a very strange place at the moment, with most of us sat at home for our and others safety. And of course, we are closed at the moment as advised by the government. So we’ve put a little tool kit together to help you with any problems that may arise while we aren’t here to help you in person!
“My ball has come unscrewed!”
If you still have the ball, and would like to try screwing it back on, we recommend standing over the sink, with the plug in and a towel in the sink (in case you drop the ball!). Don’t look in a mirror, and try 3 times. If you can’t manage it after 3 times, pop some breathable surgical tape over it (not plasters as they cause sweating and potentially suffocate the wound), to keep the bar in place, and wait until we are open...or try again when it’s less frustrating!
“My piercing is new!”
Okay, clean it twice a day with sterile saline (neilmed or stericlens are perfect!) and leave it alone! Normal aftercare rules apply.
Try and stay as healthy as you can, keep hydrated, eat well and sleep well. All these things will help you on your way to a happy, healthy, healed piercing!
“But I’m bored!”
Watch a movie, play a video game or read a book. Please don’t play with your piercings, keep your hands off at all times unless you have washed your hands to clean the piercing, and please don’t attempt to change the jewellery yourself - especially if your piercing is new.
“I’m getting a bump”
Bumps are usually nothing to worry about, but if you develop something new on your piercing you aren’t sure about, we are here for you - just not in person! We are available via our Facebook page (www.facebook.com/PierceOfArtAlfreton), where we will do our best to help. It is very very unlikely to need any medical intervention, so please come to us first! We want to avoid any extra strain on our health service at a time like this.
“I want a new piercing!”
Please don’t seek out someone who would risk your health and well being by piercing you while the government are being very clear about lockdown rules. We will be back open soon and will happily accommodate any piercing your heart desires!
